Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully completed a series of strategic traffic enhancements on Sheikh Zayed Road, aimed at boosting road capacity, minimizing congestion, and improving overall traffic efficiency. These upgrades align with Dubai’s commitment to advancing its road network in line with the city’s rapid urban expansion.

 

Key Developments on Sheikh Zayed Road

As Dubai’s primary arterial roadway, Sheikh Zayed Road serves as a vital corridor connecting business districts, commercial hubs, and residential communities. It is home to iconic landmarks such as the Dubai International Financial Centre, Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, and major multinational corporations, banks, and hotels.

The RTA’s improvements focus on enhancing the flow of traffic, reducing delays at key intersections, and expanding road capacity to accommodate the growing number of commuters.

Major Upgrades & Impact

Expansion of Service Road near Financial Centre Metro Station (Abu Dhabi-bound)

• Increased lanes from three to four, boosting capacity by 25%.
• Road now accommodates 3,200 vehicles per hour, up from 2,400.
• Reduced congestion and eliminated vehicle queues, cutting journey time from five minutes to just two.

Optimized Traffic Merging at Al Khail Road & Financial Centre Street (Dubai-bound)

• Extended merging distance, easing congestion and improving service levels.
• Achieved a 25% reduction in travel time, reducing journey duration from four minutes to three minutes.
