The incident, which took place on Liverpool’s historic Water Street, is not being treated as an act of terrorism, according to Merseyside Police, who say the suspect acted alone.
What Happened: Timeline of the Incident

Four children and over 20 others treated at the scene
A paramedic on a bicycle was also struck, but not seriously hurt
The vehicle struck the crowd around 6 p.m. local time
Suspect arrested: A 53-year-old male from the Liverpool area
Police say the incident was likely an isolated attack and confirmed they are “not currently looking for anyone else.”
Liverpool FC & Premier League Respond
Liverpool FC released a statement saying it is in “direct contact with Merseyside Police” and that “our thoughts and prayers are with all affected by this serious incident.”
Other football organizations and clubs responded swiftly:

Manchester United: “Our thoughts are with Liverpool and the city.”
Everton FC: “Our city stands united. Prayers with those affected.”
Eyewitnesses Describe the Horror
“A car flew past us… people were chasing it and trying to stop him,” said Peter Jones, a tourist from the Isle of Man.
“Pop, pop, pop — people being hit off the bonnet,” said Harry Rashid, who witnessed the incident unfold in seconds.
Videos shared on social media showed the crowd swarming the vehicle, attempting to stop it as it drove into the celebration zone.
UK Leaders React Swiftly
Prime Minister Keir Starmer: Called the event “appalling,” praised first responders, and urged calm as investigations continue.
Home Secretary Yvette Cooper: Labeled the attack “truly shocking and horrendous.”
Liverpool City Council: Working closely with police to assess the situation and assist victims.
The Parade: A Celebration Turned Tragic
The Liverpool FC parade was organized to celebrate their 20th English league title, and their second Premier League crown. Fans packed the streets of Liverpool after the team’s 5–1 win over Tottenham Hotspur and a powerful season finale at Anfield Stadium.
This was Liverpool’s first time lifting the Premier League trophy in front of a full stadium after their 2020 victory was celebrated in empty stands due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
What should have been a moment of glory became a night of sorrow, chaos, and emergency response.
